The title of this book by Bart Ehrman encapsulates for me the correct elucidation of the life and message of the man Yeshua. The only thing I would criticise about this book is that it nowhere cites the importance of the Zoroastrian eschatology imported into late Second Temple Judaism and which is so evident in the dualism and apocalyptic eschatology of the intertestamental literature, the Dead Sea Scrolls and the New Testament. Ehrman writes simply and convincingly, all the time using the proven techniques of redaction criticism to fillet the New Testament to arrive at the original ideas and sayings of a man who would be amazed at his later transformation into the Cosmic Christ. It should be a set book primer on every theology course.
