I am curious as to people's definition of inspiration. Some people believe in the total inerrancy of Scripture and claim that every single word is inspired by God. Others maintain that it is the Word of God, but not the words of God. For myself, if I cannot believe in the facts included in the Bible, I cannot have confidence in the theology either.
It is for this reason that the nativities in Matthew and Luke, are in my opinion, so important. Implicit in Matthew is a date for the birth of Jesus of six/five BC. Explicit in Luke however, is a date for the birth of Jesus of six AD. I have not yet seen any satisfactory reconciliation of this apparent contradiction.
